North West Netball on Fire: Tshukudu Tops Division 2 as Flames Hold Strong in Division 1

North West netball teams left an indelible mark during Power Week 1 of the 2025 Telkom Netball League (TNL) held at Sun City from 26 April to 4 May. With Tshukudu blazing through Division 2 and the North West Flames delivering gritty performances in Division 1, the province continues to assert itself as a force in South African netball.

The North West Flames, competing in the top-tier Division 1, currently sit third on the log with 7 points from 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. Their goal difference (+3) and goal average (1.0089) reflect a side capable of grinding out close matches—even in tight encounters with elite opposition.

Key performances during Power Week 1:

Flames 51-46 Zambezi Eagles – a composed win showcasing their ability to close out games under pressure.

Flames 58-56 Aloes – another close result that demonstrated resilience and fitness.

Flames 32-48 Crinums – a tough loss but a learning opportunity against one of the strongest sides in the division.

Flames 58-36 Comets (Sun, 4 May) – a clinical finish to Power Week, showing attacking sharpness and defensive discipline.

Led by experienced players and a strong coaching setup, the Flames are in a solid position to contest a semi-final berth, and with improved finishing and focus, could climb even higher in the standings.

If there’s one North West team that set Sun City ablaze this past week, it’s Tshukudu. Currently sitting top of the Division 2 log, Tshukudu boasts 14 points from 7 wins and just 1 loss, with a staggering goal difference of +100 and a goal average of 1.2985—the highest in their division.

Standout wins from Power Week 1:

Tshukudu 52-37 Lilies – an early statement win that set the tone for their campaign.

Tshukudu 70-36 Diamonds (Wed, 30 April) – sheer dominance on both ends of the court.

Tshukudu 53-37 KD Queens – a key clash that underlined their title credentials.

Tshukudu 59-33 Sonoblomo (Sat, 3 May) – finishing strong, commanding respect across the division.

Their only blemish came against Tornados (L 33-46), but the overall consistency, scoring depth, and tactical intelligence make Tshukudu a top contender for promotion to Division 1.

Both teams have given fans across the North West province reason to celebrate. With Flames holding the torch in Division 1 and Tshukudu pushing for greatness in Division 2, the depth of talent, coaching quality, and fighting spirit are clear.

As the TNL progresses into Power Week 2, all eyes will be on these teams to continue building on their momentum and carrying the pride of North West onto the national stage.
