community of Vryburg is reeling from the tragic loss of one of its sons, 38-year-old businessman and legal practitioner, Advocate Katlego Sandford Moribe, who was fatally shot on the night of Sunday, 01 June 2025, in Kuruman.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at House No. 12, Assegaai Hostel, in Seoding Block A at approximately 21:00. Moribe was reportedly accompanied by a friend, Mr. Keorapetse Moruakgomo, when they came under heavy fire upon arriving at the residence. Moribe was shot multiple times while allegedly opening the gate to the property.

Police confirmed that Advocate Moribe sustained nine gunshot wounds to his head and body. Despite the rapid response by local authorities and emergency services, he was declared dead at the scene by a representative from the Forensic Pathology Services, Mr. Louw.
The crime scene was swiftly cordoned off and attended to by all relevant role players, including detectives, the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), and crime scene experts. Several forensic clues were lifted from the area as part of the ongoing investigation. His remains were later transported to the government mortuary.
Family members arrived at the scene shortly after and identified the body of the late advocate. At this stage, no suspects have been arrested, and the motive behind the brutal killing remains unknown.
Advocate Moribe, known for his sharp legal mind and entrepreneurial spirit, had made significant contributions in both legal and business circles. His death has sent shockwaves through Vryburg and beyond, with many taking to social media to express their condolences and demand justice.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has registered a murder case under case number 07.06.2025 and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
As the investigation unfolds, the Vryburg Independent Post extends heartfelt condolences to the Moribe family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and work.
