Morokweng is gearing up to welcome a major new event on the agricultural calendar, with Moalosi Bonsmaras set to host the inaugural Moalosi Duncan Serapelwane (MDS) Agricultural Expo from 30 April to 2 May 2026 at Moalosi Bonsmaras Farm, about 140km outside Vryburg.
In a media statement, released Friday, 06 February 2026, Organisers describe the three-day expo as a bold rural development push that will bring practical training, innovation, mentorship and business opportunities directly to farmers in the heart of the North West. The event is hosted by Duncan Serapelwane, described in the statement as one of South Africa’s leading Bonsmara stud breeders and founder of Moalosi Bonsmaras.
According to the organisers, the expo is designed for farmers at every level, as well as agribusinesses, students and stakeholders, offering hands-on workshops, masterclasses, live demonstrations and exhibitions that showcase new developments in production, agro-processing and emerging technologies — including artificial intelligence in agriculture.
Serapelwane says the expo builds on the success of previous farmer days and masterclasses hosted at his farm, which attracted participants from across South Africa and neighbouring Botswana, but that farmers wanted more time for deeper engagement — prompting a structured multi-day platform.
In outlining the purpose of the expo, organisers say the MDS Agricultural Expo is expected to focus on both skills and inclusion. Key objectives include exposing farmers to modern technologies through demonstrations; strengthening farmer-to-farmer mentorship between commercial and small-scale farmers; creating partnership opportunities across the value chain; and providing targeted training through seminars and practical workshops.
The statement also highlights a strong inclusion drive — aiming to empower women, youth, people living with disabilities and military veterans, while also supporting agricultural students and interns through industry exposure.
Beyond the farm gate, organisers say the expo will promote agro-tourism and help position the North West as a preferred rural destination, while also communicating available support programmes from the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The organisers say the expo aligns with National Development Plan (NDP) Vision 2030, particularly the call for an integrated rural economy that supports land reform, infrastructure development, agro-processing and tourism alongside primary agriculture.
Serapelwane, who has been farming since 2003, is described as widely respected for mentorship and development work, including contributions to the Donate a Heifer initiative, which supports young livestock farmers.
