VRYBURG – Kismet Secondary School has emerged victorious, on Thursday, 13 August 2026, in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati (Dr RSM) District Road Safety School Debates, earning the opportunity to represent the district at the provincial stage of the competition.
The school secured first place, followed by Pitso Letlhogile Secondary School in second place and Pinagare High School in third.
The debate forms part of the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management’s Road Safety School Debate programme, which aims to equip learners with knowledge and confidence to advocate for safer roads and responsible road-user behaviour.

Through the programme, learners engage with issues surrounding responsible driving, adherence to road rules and the reduction of pedestrian deaths on the province’s roads. The initiative also seeks to strengthen learners’ research, leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
The department said informed young voices can play an important role in influencing their communities and promoting a culture of road safety.
With their district victory, Kismet Secondary School will now carry the Dr RSM District baton to the provincial competition, where they will compete against schools from across the North West.
The achievement highlights the role of schools and young people in raising awareness around road safety and contributing to safer communities.
