On the auspicious occasion of the commissioning of the Clement Gapare Saruchera Primary School on 3rd April 2024 in Extension 25, Huhudi, Ambassador Darkey Africa delivered insightful remarks that resonated with the community and dignitaries present.

In his address, Ambassador Darkey Africa acknowledged the distinguished guests, including Acting Premier Cde Nono Maloyi, MEC of Education Cde Mocumi, District Director Mme Ma-Dithejane, the Saruchera family, educators, principals, members of the Renaming Committee, officials of the municipalities, parents, and invited guests.

He commenced by invoking T.S. Elliot’s words, emphasizing the importance of exploring historical truths and bringing them into the light. Ambassador Africa delved into a brief historical narrative, highlighting the evolution of education in Huhudi and the pivotal role played by individuals like Clement Gapare Saruchera.

Ambassador Africa outlined the educational landscape from the founding of the Stellaland Republic in 1882, where churches served as schools for black people, to the establishment of Tiger Kloof Institute in 1904. He mentioned prominent figures like Ngono, Ruth Mompati, Ngaba, Matimba, Hlakudi, Moeti, and Mokgosi as pioneers of education in Huhudi.

The late Clement Gapare Saruchera, fondly known as Bra Tso, was born in Huhudi in 1951 and made significant contributions to education. Ambassador Africa described him as a gifted and talented teacher who dedicated almost 30 years to teaching at John Frylinck HP School. Bra Tso’s unwavering commitment to education and his impact on generations of students were highlighted during the ceremony.

The rigorous selection process that led to Saruchera’s name being chosen for the school was acknowledged, with Ambassador Africa expressing gratitude to the MEC and Premier for recognizing Saruchera’s legacy. He urged the community to preserve the school as a symbol of their heritage and emphasized the transformative power of education in shaping the future.

Ambassador Africa concluded by quoting the late President of South Africa and the ANC, “Education is the key to empowerment,”emphasizing the ANC’s commitment to empowering communities through education.

His remarks resonated deeply, instilling a sense of pride and responsibility in the community towards the newly inaugurated Saruchera Primary School.
