VRYBURG – Hope has been restored for residents of Geduldspan after the North West MEC for Human Settlements, Gaoage Oageng Molapisi, officially introduced Mintirho Business Supplies as the contractor appointed to unblock and complete the long-awaited 109 housing units in the village.

The introduction took place on Thursday, 16 July 2026, at the Naledi Local Municipality Chamber, marking a significant milestone for beneficiaries who have waited years to receive their homes. The project forms part of the Human Settlements Development Grant and is valued at R17.5 million, with completion targeted for 31 March 2027.  

Addressing stakeholders, MEC Molapisi urged the contractor, community members, beneficiaries and all role players to work together to ensure the project is completed on time and without unnecessary delays or disruptions.

The Department of Human Settlements outlined the responsibilities of the various stakeholders, including the contractor, Naledi Local Municipality and the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC), to ensure the houses are built according to approved standards and that quality, compliance and accountability are maintained throughout the project.  

In addition to providing much-needed housing, the contractor is expected to maximise local economic benefits through the employment of local labour, support for emerging contractors and SMMEs, and skills development opportunities for community members during construction.  

The project is expected to transform the lives of 109 beneficiary families in Geduldspan while contributing to improved housing delivery and economic development in Naledi Local Municipality.

Geduldspan is a small rural village in Ward 1 of the Naledi Local Municipality, within the Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality in the North West Province. It falls under the same municipality as Vryburg, Stella, Dithakwaneng and other surrounding rural settlements.  

In terms of distance:

• From Vryburg to Geduldspan: approximately 65–75 km by road (about 50–60 minutes’ drive, depending on the route and road conditions).

• From Stella to Geduldspan: approximately 25 km, which aligns with municipal planning documents describing Geduldspan as being roughly 25 km from Stella.  

Geduldspan is a predominantly rural community that has historically faced significant housing and infrastructure challenges. The current 109-unit housing project aims to provide long-awaited homes to qualifying beneficiaries and improve living conditions in the village.
