Opinion Piece: HANEKOM IS NO CO-CONSPIRATOR HE REBUKED JZ IN THE NEC AND PUBLIC AT LARGE

It’s no secret that once JZ had defied the NEC resolution recalling him, that the ANC had threatened to pass a no-confidence motion or impeach him.

To do the latter, two-thirds majority would be required, which threshold the ANC didn’t have. Logically, although not ideally, the engagement would have been required.

The ANC sent the S-G to persuade JZ to step down and we were all spared the dilemma of removing our recalcitrant deployee with the help of the opposition.

To Hanekom’s credit, he stood up in the NEC meeting and asked JZ to resign, he looked him in his face and told him he was causing untold damage to the ANC.

He was defeated and subsequently lost his cabinet post in a late-night reshuffle. He wore the scar as a badge of honor and continued to wage a principled battle to save the ANC and SA.

Now consider this, all those who’ve been targeted by Malema have had previous fights with him – Pravin, Solly, Hanekom etc. Hanekom fired Malema from the ANC. He read the verdict of the NDC and sealed his fate.

We must all accept that there was no conspiracy on the part of Hanekom in meeting with the EFF, his determination to remove JZ was already known when he bravely stood up amongst terrified NEC comrades and looked JZ in the eye and asked him to step down.

In closing, let’s explore the question as to why Hanekom was so passionate about preserving the image and integrity of the ANC:

He’s that 23-year-old Afrikaner who had dared to challenge the apartheid regime. He was arrested in 1976 for staging a protest at the most-feared John Vorster Square Police Station – a place were June 16 detained students were thrown out of tenth floor window to their brutal death.

Hanekom and wife wife Dr. Patricia were both arrested and charged with Treason for having joined the ANC Underground. Hanekom was convicted and jailed while Dr. Patricia was deported. Upon his release, he skipped the country and joined the armed struggle.

Now, I think we’re all clear that he’d be jealous if he saw the ANC being dragged to the abyss, right to the bottom of the lake. He stood up when many were terrified and petrified. Give this man Seaparankwe for saving South Africa.
