A suspected veld fire has erupted this afternoon near Isicebi Trading Company (Pty) Ltd.’s warehouse in Vryburg’s industrial area. Emergency fire personnel are on the scene and have actively managed to contain the blaze. Heavy smoke is drifting across parts of the precinct.

At this stage, the cause is unknown and no injuries have been confirmed. Motorists and pedestrians are be cautious around the area where possible and to keep vehicle windows closed if driving near the smoke.

Residents are reminded not to start veld fires, particularly during hot or windy conditions, when flames spread rapidly. Please:

• Never burn refuse or fields.

• Extinguish braai fires and cigarettes completely.

• Clear dry grass and flammable material from around homes and businesses.

• Report any smoke or flare-ups immediately to local emergency services (from a cellphone, you can dial 112).

Firefighters are currently mopping up and monitoring hotspots.
