The North West Regional Council of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) has paid tribute to its Moderator, Rev Naledi Otswelwang, as he marks 30 years in ministry.
According to information shared by the Council, Rev Otswelwang’s journey in faith and service is rooted in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District. He began his schooling at Reivilo Combined School, continued at Leshobo Middle School, and matriculated at Podumong High School. He later trained at the Federal Theological Seminary in Pietermaritzburg, where he obtained a diploma between 1991 and 1993.
His formal ministry path included a period as a Ministerial Probationer/Intern at the Pampierstad Circuit (UCCSA) in 1994, with his probation/internship completed in 1995 under the then North Western Cape Regional structures. He was subsequently called to serve the Pampierstad Circuit on a full-time basis and was ordained in the UCCSA on 4 February 1996 — a date that now anchors this 30-year milestone.

Beyond congregational ministry, Rev Otswelwang’s service also extended into public institutions. In 2002, he was appointed as a Principal Chaplain in the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Northern Cape, and later furthered his studies at the University of Pretoria, graduating with a BA Honours in Practical Theology (with distinction). His training includes programmes linked to employee assistance, debriefing, dignity and diversity in policing, and pastoral care and counselling.
The Council also highlighted several leadership roles held by Rev Otswelwang over the years, including positions within the North West Regional Council structures, denominational mission work, and representation linked to the Tigerkloof Learning Institution.
In its tribute, the Council described him as a servant leader whose ministry has been shaped by obedience, humility and unwavering commitment to God’s calling, adding that his guidance has strengthened congregations and inspired many across the region.
The message also acknowledged the personal side of his journey, noting his family and the loss of his son, while expressing gratitude for the faith that continues to carry him forward as he enters a new chapter of ministry service.
