In a recent developments , on Friday, 14 June 2024, within the North West Provincial Government, the African National Congress (ANC) has deployed key comrades to lead the provincial legislature in the new administration. The ANC North West extends its congratulations to all the appointed officials who will play crucial roles in governing the province.

Firstly, Cde. Kagiso Lazarus Mokgosi has been appointed as the Premier of the North West Provincial Government, marking a significant step in the administration’s leadership structure.

During the inaugural Legislature House Sitting, which was presided over by Judge President Ronald Deon Hendricks of the Mahikeng High Court, several key positions were filled. Hon. Desbo Mohono was elected as the new Speaker of the Legislature, while Hon. Tshepo George Khoza assumed the role of Deputy Speaker. Hon. Motlalepula Rosho was appointed as the Chief Whip of the House, and Hon. Tebogo Modise was selected as the Chairperson of Chairpersons of Committees. Notably, all Presiding Officers were nominated and elected unopposed, showcasing a unified decision-making process.

The nomination and election processes were conducted in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, specifically referencing Section 107, Section 111(1), Section 128(2), and Section 129.

Additionally, the Legislature appointed Permanent Delegates to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and voted for the new Chairperson of the NCOP, further solidifying the province’s representation at the national level.

Political parties represented in the North West Legislature include the African National Congress with 23 Members of Provincial Legislature (MPLs), Economic Freedom Fighters with 7 MPLs, Democratic Alliance with 5 MPLs, Umkhonto weSizwe Party with 1 MPL, Action SA with 1 MPL, and Freedom Front Plus with 1 MPL.

In his remarks following his election as Premier, Kagiso Lazarus Mokgosi emphasized key priorities for the 7th administration:

– Unity, reconciliation, compassion, and prioritizing the interests of South Africans.

– Building on the foundations of the previous administration over the next five years.

– Focus on youth employment opportunities as a central pillar of the administration’s agenda.
