MOROKWENG, NORTH WEST – Excitement is building ahead of the upcoming MDS Agricultural Expo, where two lucky farmers will walk away with valuable livestock prizes, including a sheep with a lamb and a goat with a Kid.

The competition, open to attendees who purchase master class tickets, forms part of a broader initiative to attract and inspire farmers—particularly young people—to explore opportunities within agriculture.

Hosted by respected Bonsmara breeder Duncan Serapelwane, the three-day Moalosi Duncan Serapelwane (MDS) Agricultural Expo, to be held on the 30th of April until the 2nd of May 2026, is set to position Morokweng as an emerging agricultural hub in the North West province.

Serapelwane said the livestock giveaway is designed to motivate and empower young farmers. “Farming has the power to transform lives. This expo is about opening doors, sharing knowledge, and inspiring the next generation,” he said.

Beyond the prizes, the expo will feature hands-on workshops, live demonstrations, and masterclasses led by some of South Africa’s leading agricultural experts. Among the headline speakers is Jan van Zyl Jnr of Kroonvee Brahmans near Vryburg, alongside industry specialist Patrick Sekwatlakwatla, who will host live livestock judging demonstrations.

The programme will cover key topics such as herd productivity, animal health, financial management, and the use of modern technologies—including artificial intelligence—in farming.

A dedicated career exhibition on the opening day will also provide young people with insights into opportunities across the agricultural value chain.
