Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital (JMMH) will on Wednesday, 27 April 2022, embark on an Outreach Campaign focusing on Child Malnutrition. The hospital will be conducting Malnutrition Screening for children between the ages of 06 Months to 5 years in Huhudi.

Parents are encouraged to bring along their clinic documents, such as “The road to Health Booklet”. Members of the public are encouraged to be part of this initiative by spreading the word to those with children to use this opportunity to bring their kids. The screening will be done for free.
According to UNICEF South Africa, 1.5 million children (1 in 3) are stunted. This Means that the children are too short for their height. “Undernutrition makes children more vulnerable to disease and death, and a young child who is moderately or severely wasted is at a much higher risk. Poor socio-economic conditions and poor maternal health and child feeding in the early years leave many children stunted and wasted, unable to reach their physical and cognitive potential.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends identifying acute malnutrition in children 6–59 months old by measuring weight-for-length/height (WHZ), mid upper-arm circumference (MUAC), and assessing the presence of nutritional oedema.
