As investigations are continuing, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the North West Province has now confirmed that the registered Inquest into the death of Sedika Lekhobo, who was found dead at Vryburg Cemetery on Sunday Morning, has now changed to a murder charge.

According to Captain Sam Tselanyane, Spokesperson for the North West Province SAPS, the change in the charge came following the release of the Post-Mortem results that revealed that the deceased suffered blunt trauma to the head and was strangled to death. “The Post-Morten also shows that she had recent sexual intercourse, but rape cannot be confirmed with certainty.” Capt. Tselanyane elaborated.

As tributes continued pour in from all over the Province The Vryburg Independent Post NPO Board of Directors, alongside The Vryburg Independent Post Team (The VIP Team) would also like to pass heartfelt condolences to the Lekhobo and Mereekae Families during this profoundly difficult time.

According to information available to The VIP Team, Sedika will be remembered during a memorial service at the school she attended, Vryburg Secondary School, on Thursday, 24 March 2022 at 12pm.
