As part of the stabilisation operations that commenced in the Province on 6 October 2018, Mahikeng police arrested four suspects between the ages of 23 and 26 on Saturday, 19 January 2019, for the suspected unlawful possession of two unlicensed firearms. The suspect’s apprehension emanates after police identified a suspicious vehicle during patrol duties, stopped and searched the vehicle and found two firearms. The occupants could not account for the firearms and were immediately arrested.

The suspects are expected to appear before Mahikeng Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 21 January 2019, for the alleged possession of unlicensed firearms.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended the police for their commitment that led to the successes and said stabilization operations are showing good results in the Province.   She said that multi-disciplinary operations will continue to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.
