VRYBURG – The Naledi Municipality Taxi Association (NAMTA) has appealed to commuters and residents to actively participate in improving local public transport services by sharing their views on proposed route and fare adjustments.
NAMTA would like to emphasize that no final decision has yet been taken, and all circulating rumours regarding sudden taxi fare increases should be treated as unofficial until proper community consultation has been completed.
In an official notice, on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, to commuters, the association announced proposed fare changes on the Colour Block Extensions 25 and 28 route, which may increase from R15 to R17, and the Ditlhakwaneng route, where fares may increase from R30 to R35.
NAMTA Chairperson J.M. Machogo said the association values the trust and support of commuters and wants the community to play a direct role in decisions affecting public transport.
“We want to hear your honest opinion. Your cooperation is essential in making our transport system reliable and efficient,” said Machogo.
To encourage public participation, NAMTA has placed a suggestion box at the taxi rank, next to Machogo’s parcel counter, where commuters can submit their suggestions, concerns, and recommendations. Residents can also participate through an online suggestion box by clicking on the provided link (Link: NAMTA COMMUNITY SUGGESTION BOX – Fill out form) and complete the online feedback form.

The association believes community input is critical in ensuring that transport services remain affordable, accessible, and responsive to the needs of commuters.
Machogo further highlighted NAMTA’s commitment to community development, noting that the association has long been involved in initiatives aimed at addressing social challenges, including crime prevention and gender-based violence awareness campaigns.
“We encourage all commuters and residents to make use of both the physical and online suggestion boxes. Every suggestion matters and will help us improve the service we provide to the community,” he said. According to the Chairman,
NAMTA would like to emphasize that no final decision has yet been taken, and all circulating rumours regarding sudden taxi fare increases should be treated as unofficial until proper community consultation has been completed.
The suggestion period runs until 12 June 2026, after which feedback will be reviewed and considered as part of the association’s decision-making process.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity and ensure their voices are heard.
