The Vryburg Super Kings Cricket Club (VSKCC) has officially kicked off the 2024/25 season with their Annual General Meeting (AGM), followed by a memorable family day at the park. The event was a resounding success, bringing together players, their families, and supporters for a day of fun, food, and cricketing camaraderie.

AGM Highlights and New Season Outlook

One of the most exciting announcements from the AGM is the club’s decision to start a women’s cricket team. The VSKCC has registered to compete in the North West Cricket Women’s League for the upcoming season. The women’s team will participate in both T20 and ODI (50-over) competitions. The squad currently consists of a mix of students and working professionals, but the club is actively seeking to recruit younger, talented players as part of its mission to grow women’s cricket in the region.

“We have a mixed team of students and working professionals but are looking to beef up the team with younger ladies because our plan is to grow women’s cricket,” said a club representative. “We are looking for talented youngsters to join our teams, both male and female.”

Leadership and Committee Updates

As for the leadership, the current committee remains unchanged for now. The club has chosen to promote fair and transparent leadership by allowing members to nominate candidates for the various committee positions. A vote will be held at a later date to determine the new office bearers. “Who knows, you might have a female chairperson next time we talk,” hinted the club representative.

Focus on Talent Development

The VSKCC is also placing a strong emphasis on talent development this season. The club is committed to nurturing the next generation of cricketers and will be offering training opportunities for any child interested in learning the game. “Our aim is to grow this beautiful game in our district and town,” said the club representative.

The VSKCC is optimistic about the season ahead, with a roster full of talented individuals eager to make their mark. The team is determined to be crowned champions this year, and the addition of a women’s team marks a significant step forward in the club’s growth and development.

A Day of Celebration

The family day was a highlight, with the Chairman manning the braai and the Vice-Chairperson taking charge of organizing the event. It was a day filled with joy, laughter, and pride as everyone came together to celebrate the start of a new season. Kamohelo Leeuw, a key figure in the club, took a back seat this time, watching with pride as the team and community came together in unity.

With a renewed focus on inclusivity, talent development, and competitive success, the Vryburg Super Kings Cricket Club is ready to make this season one for the books. The future looks bright, and the club is excited to see what the 2024/25 season has in store.
