VRYBURG – Grief and remembrance filled the air as learners, educators and officials gathered for a solemn memorial service at Vryburg High School to honour the three learners who tragically lost their lives in last week’s accident.
The service, held in a private setting, at the school’s Hall, on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, provided the school community with an opportunity to reflect, pay tribute, and begin the healing process. The North West Department of Education, led by MEC Ntsetsao Viola Motsumi, joined mourners in extending condolences to the bereaved families.

During the memorial, the MEC handed over school blazers belonging to the three learners to their families, a symbolic gesture recognising their identity, pride, and place within the school community. Messages of comfort were shared, including scripture readings from Psalms, Matthew, and Revelation, offering spiritual support to grieving families and learners.

With the memorial concluded, attention has now turned to the funeral arrangements, which have been officially confirmed.
A joint funeral service for the late Remofileo Mtshengu and Kitso Mathope will take place at 07:00 on Saturday, 18 April 2026, at the Tswaing Community Hall in Delareyville.
Separately, the funeral of Enica Nombela will also be held at 07:00 on the same day at Plot 73, Soutpan, in Delareyville.

The funerals are expected to draw significant attendance from the broader community, as friends, families, and residents come together to pay their final respects.
The tragic loss of the three young learners has deeply affected Vryburg and surrounding areas, with ongoing support being provided to learners and families. Authorities have reiterated calls for unity and compassion as the community prepares for the final farewell.
As the town mourns, Saturday’s funerals are expected to serve as a moment of collective grief, remembrance, and reflection on lives lost too soon.
