Rock of Springs SA College, a private college operating in the Mahikeng area, has been ousted by the The Consumer Affairs Court in its sitting in Mmabatho, as illegitimate, and has been operating illegally. The Court has ordered the College to shut its doors and pay back all learners who were registered with the College.

According to Dumisa Seshabela, Spokesperson at the Department of Finance, Economy and Enterprise Development in the North West Province, It was established that the college operates illegally as it is not registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training. The case was referred to the Court after the failure of the mediation process by North West Consumer Affairs Office.

“The College has been operating for quite some time and offered courses which were not accredited by MICT SETA, which amongst others includes, Information Technology, Technical Support and Mechanical Engineering N3.” Seshabela said.

Rock of Springs SA College has been issuing fraudulent certificates to its students claiming the qualifications were verified by MICT SETA. Geofrey Kakaire, who spoke on behalf of the college , as its director, at the Court proceedings, failed to give a credible testimony as far as the colleges operation is concern.

In a verdict by the Chairperson of the Consumer Affairs Court, John Nkomo, Kakaire is to cease and desist from running the College until it complies with the laws and regulations for registration and accreditation of the private colleges. All certificates issued by Rock of Springs from Mahikeng site were declared null and void.
