Miss North West Exclusive has a new queen—and her reign comes with a clear social mission. Phenyo Sebetlele (20), who grew up between Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom and now studies at North-West University, was recently crowned Miss North West Exclusive 2025. Beyond pageantry, she describes her year as an opportunity to build practical, people-centred projects across the province.

Currently in her second year of Recreational Science and Tourism Management at NWU, Phenyo balances lectures with community work. Her advocacy focus is Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF)—not only raising awareness, but helping survivors access support so they can heal and reintegrate into school, work, and family life.

Even before wearing the crown, Phenyo was hands-on in her community:

• Back-to-school drive: donated 100 school bags to learners from under-resourced households.

• Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week: ran activities highlighting early support for learners.

• Women’s Health Month: delivered a health awareness campaign tailored to local needs.

• “Young Heroes of Tomorrow”: celebrated youth changemakers during Youth Month to encourage peer leadership.

Phenyo says her reign will prioritise GBV response and prevention. Planned actions include:

• Stakeholder engagement with the Departments of Justice, Health, and Education, and local media partners, to coordinate referrals and public education.

• Support pathways for survivors, from psychosocial care to information on accessing justice.

• School and campus outreach, blending her student perspective with practical workshops for young people.

Phenyo’s journey with Miss North West Exclusive began in 2024 when she auditioned for the 2025 programme. Friends and mentors describe her as driven, quietly strategic, and deeply community-minded—qualities she hopes will make the title “a working crown” rather than a ceremonial one.
