Statistics South Africa’s population estimate is said to be 4 027 160, and according to the North West Province’s Department the mass screening initiative has managed to reach over 14% of the population in the province.

On the 6th of April, Premier Job Mokgoro launched a Provincial CoronaVirus mass screening, testing and contact tracing initiative across all districts. Field workers and healthcare workers are visiting villages, towns and cities to screen residents for COVID-19 symptoms. People with symptoms are referred to local clinics or mobile clinics for testing.

As at Wednesday, 22 April 2020, from the over 580 000 people that were screened, only 505 people were tested for the virus.
