Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi today, 5 March 2020, launched a new hotline that will allow workers to report cases of non-compliance with the national minimum wage (NMW) without any cost to them.

In collaboration with one of South Africa’s leading cellular providers, the launch of the NMW Impimpa hotline will provide a messaging interaction mechanism for end-users (workers) to allow them to report cases of non-compliance with the national minimum wage without any cost.

According to Minister Nxesi, the Impimpa Hotline is designed to strengthen compliance with the National Minimum Wage determination, currently sitting at R20.76 per hour.
“The Impimpa Hotline was envisaged as a tool to assist vulnerable, isolated workers – such as domestic workers – to report non-compliant employers at no cost to themselves. You don’t need data, airtime or a smart phone to use the Hotline.” Said the Minister.
