On 11 October 2024, learners from John Frylinck School in Huhudi embarked on a peaceful march to the Huhudi Police Station. Contrary to initial concerns about a protest, the event was an inspiring display of youth activism aimed at promoting positive behavior among school learners.
Upon reaching the police station, the students presented a pledge to the Acting Station Commander. This document, symbolizing a commitment to better choices, outlined the learners’ vow to refrain from bullying, substance abuse, fighting, and teenage pregnancy. The pledge demonstrated their determination to foster a safer and more supportive school environment.
The Acting Station Commander, who received the pledge, commended the learners for their initiative, acknowledging the importance of such proactive efforts in creating positive change within the community.
The peaceful march and the pledge serve as a testament to the determination of Huhudi’s youth to address the challenges they face and commit to building a better future for themselves and their peers. This initiative has been met with widespread support from parents, educators, and community members, all of whom are hopeful that this marks the beginning of significant change in the attitudes and behaviors of learners across the area.
The Vryburg Independent Post commends John Frylinck School learners for their commendable action, showing that the youth of Huhudi are ready to lead by example and advocate for a positive and safe educational environment.
