The pivotal moment in Mahlangu’s life came in 1977 when he was involved in a confrontation with police in Johannesburg. During the altercation, two white civilians were killed, leading to Mahlangu’s arrest, trial, and subsequent sentencing to death under the oppressive apartheid regime.

His trial drew international attention and highlighted the injustice of apartheid’s legal system. Despite global pleas for clemency, Mahlangu remained resolute, proclaiming his commitment to the struggle for freedom and justice until his last breath.

On April 6, 1979, Solomon Mahlangu faced the gallows with unwavering courage, leaving behind a legacy that transcends his untimely death. His final words, “My blood will nourish the tree that will bear the fruits of freedom,” echoed a profound dedication to the liberation of South Africa.
