A 53-year-old ex-convict, Ntatabuta Maleke, is set to appear once again in the Ganyesa Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 April 2024, for murder. This somber development follows Maleke’s recent arrest and subsequent first court appearance on Monday, 8 April 2024, after being accused of killing his girlfriend, Angelina Maruping (43).

According to the SAPS in North West Province, the grim incident unfolded between Friday, 5 April 2024, and Saturday, 6 April 2024, at Tsholofelo Location, Piet Plessis, outside Vryburg. Police, acting on crucial information, swiftly moved to Maleke’s residence where they made the distressing discovery. Inside the house, they found a half brick with blood stains in the kitchen, and tragically, Angelina’s lifeless body covered by a blanket. Nearby lay a blood-stained chain, further illustrating the violent nature of the crime. Paramedics, upon arrival, confirmed Angelina’s death at the scene, leading to Maleke’s immediate arrest.

Shockingly, preliminary investigations unveiled Maleke’s history with the law, including a past conviction of culpable homicide stemming from an assault on a previous girlfriend. In December 2003, Maleke received a 15-year imprisonment sentence, with three years suspended for four years, contingent on his conduct during the suspension period.

Reacting to this distressing event, North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, expressed condemnation for the incident while commending the police’s rapid response and subsequent arrest of the suspect.

In a statement, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena remarked, “We condemn this act of violence in the strongest possible terms. Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of Angelina Maruping during this difficult time. The swift action taken by our officers is commendable, and we remain committed to ensuring that justice is served.”

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges surrounding domestic violence and the importance of swift and effective law enforcement responses in combating such heinous crimes.
