In a significant development, the North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, has expressed his satisfaction with the conviction and sentencing of Tshepiso Mafoko (28) and Tseko Maine (35) by the Schweizer-Reneke Regional Court. The duo was found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances and murder, resulting in Tshepiso Mafoko receiving a life sentence and Tseko Maine being sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The conviction and sentencing stem from an incident that occurred on February 10, 2018, in Amalia, where Mafoko and Maine robbed and attacked Aobakwe Kgosima (31). Kgosima, who was visiting a friend in the area, was followed by the convicts from a local tavern. The perpetrators dragged him outside, stabbed him, and stole his belongings before fleeing the scene. Despite the efforts of a witness who promptly reported the incident to the police and called for medical assistance, Kgosima tragically succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital.
Tshepiso Mafoko, in addition to the murder charge, was also sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for two counts of rape committed prior to the murder. The court deemed him unfit to possess a firearm under the Firearms Control Act. Tseko Maine, on the other hand, received a 20-year sentence for murder and an additional 8-year term for robbery, with both sentences running concurrently.
