Van Rooyen confirmed that:
• The baby is female.

Community Reaction
As police combed through the scene, community members gathered in disbelief. Many expressed heartbreak and outrage over the tragic incident, with some questioning why the baby was abandoned instead of being taken to a safe haven or given up for adoption.
A local resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said, “This is heartbreaking. If someone could not take care of the baby, they should have sought help. There are so many families struggling to have children who would have gladly taken the child in.”
