The Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane has appealed to the nation, particularly family members, parents and caregivers, to ensure that children are properly cared for and not left unattended during the National State of Disaster Period.

In Huhudi, Vryburg’s townshop it is evident that the message by the Minister is yet to reach the parents of the many child playing and having fun on its street. In the mist of the President of the Republic of South Africa confirming, on 4th day of the National Lockdown, that there are now 1326 cases of COVID19 in South Africa, and 3 people dead, there are still kids that are roaming the streets of Huhudi. It should not come as a surprise to anyone if most kids do not understand how severe or serious this pandemic is or the purpose of have a 21 day lockdown, but in such cases it should be the role and responsibility of parents to make the young ones understand and to guide them.
The 21 days nationwide lockdown is a decisive measure taken by the National Coronavirus Command Council, chaired by President Ramaphosa, to save many South Africans from infection and save the lives of potentially hundreds of thousands of people. Minister Nkoana-Mashabane has advised that containment of requires parents and caregivers to ensure a safe and healthy environment for their children.

The Minister has further encouraged that during this lockdown period, parents and guardians should keep children safe at home. Children should not be socialising or playing in groups during this time. This must be done to ensure we slow down the infection rate.
