The Province recorded 385 new coronavirus positive cases in the past 24 hours, but mostly alarmingly, the mortality rate saw a sharp increase as well in this period, with 29 new deaths.

The Department of Health in the North West Province confirmed that as At Friday, 03 July 2020, the total number of people who lost their lives to the novel virus to be 36. Positive cases identified are now 5168. According the department, a total of 2 919 contacts were identified of which 2 683 have been successfully traced. “The untraced contacts are from new confirmed cases. A total of 1 301 contacts have completed 14 days monitoring period. Only 90 contacts tested positive.” Indicated the Department.

Today, 04 July 2020 marks 100th day of the National Lockdown, which was enforced based on the National Disaster Act of South Africa, on the 26th of March 2020. A regrettably dark day in the North West Province, as it begins the mourning of lives lost in such a short period due to COVID-19. MEC of Health in the North West Province, Madoda Samantha, conveyed words of encouragement to health worker in the province who have been and continue to be in the frontlines. “MEC Madoda Sambatha wishes to thank the health care workers who treated the deceased.” The Department said.

No death in the Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District was confirmed by the Department of Health in the Province. The district for now remains at a zero mortality rate, a likelihood that could change, as far as the national trend is concern. The Dr. RSM District has a total of 77 COVID-19 positive cases.

According to the Minister of Health, Dr. Zweli Mkhize, the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 177 124.
