The North West Province to date has a total coronavirus infection rate of 4788 , and this contributes 2.8% to South Africa’s burden of the virus. According to the Department of Health in the North West Province, Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District doubled the number of confirmed cases in a seven day period with majority of the cases confirmed in Naledi Municipality.

The district now has, as at Thursday, 02 July 2020, 63 COVID19 positive cases. This is a 1,3% contribution to the province’s burden of the novel coronavirus . This number in percentage would come across as very low, but if one is to look at the rising numbers in the district, a completely different image emerges. A week ago Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati Districts had 28 cases in total.

The Naledi Local Municipality is amongst areas that reported its inaugural positive COVID19 cases at this latter stage of the outbreak in the province. Lekwa-Teemane , Greater Taung, and Mamusa municipalities were amongst the first to report cases, respectively. Naledi has been identified as a new epicenter in the district with 20 COVID19 cases. Lekwa-Teemane was earlier on ,during the Provincial COVID-19 outbreak, identified as an epicenter in the district, but this has recently changed because of the 3 announced recoveries that have been confirmed by the Department.

18% of the all COVID-19 cases in the North West Province have been confirmed as recovered. Just over 2 months ago, the province had a recovery rate of 52%, and that was with a total number of positive cases siting at 28. According to information by the Provincial Department of Health, the recovery rate started taking a nosedive during first week of June 2020, at 16%.

7 COVID19 related deaths have have occurred in the province. Where as in the whole the mortality rate at the hands of the novel virus stands at 2844. 95 new deaths were recorded in the 24 hours that was. According to the Minister of Health, Dr. Zweli Mkhize, 12 deaths from Eastern Cape, 38 from Gauteng, 16 from KwaZulu Natal and 29 from Western Cape. “The mortality rate is 1,7%” Said the Minister.
