One new positive COVID19 case now brings the total number of infection in the North West Province to 52. The Minister of Health Dr. Zweli Mkhize on Wednesday, 13 May 2020, confirmed that 724 new cases were reported by various provinces in South Africa, sharply rising the total number of infections to 12 074 cases.

At this rate, it does not seem like South Africa is doing well as far as flattening the infection curve, but the recovery rate is one that is encouraging. 39% of the 12 074 cases in the country have been announced as recovered. According to the Department of Health in the North West Province 24 patients in that percentage have recovered in the Province. This leaving only 27 active cases in the North West Province.

As much there is only 1 fatality reported in the province due to Coronavirus, one might find it alarming that 13 people are reported to be in hospital receiving treatment, where as a couple of weeks ago only 1 patient was reported to be hospitalized. During a response to the coronavirus pandemic at the Union Buildings, in Pretoria, on Wednesday, 13 May 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a rise in the number of coronavirus related deaths in South Africa. “This week, our country reached a sad moment in the progression of the coronavirus pandemic, as we recorded our 219th death from the disease.” The President added the view that every life lost is a tragedy.
