
The first death at the hands of the novel coronavirus was announced in the North West Province on Monday ,11 May 2020. According to the Department of Health in the North West Province, the deceased is a 52 year old male from Rustenburg, in the Bojanala Platinum District, who presented with severe respiratory distress, hypertension, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. “We express our deepest condolences to the family and appreciate the health workers who treated the patient.” The Department said. The total number of deaths in the country is now 206.
The Bojanala Platinum District continues to be the epicenter of the virus with more than 50% of positive coronavirus cases.
1 new COVID-19 case in the Province has been announced today by the Department of Health. Dr. Zweli Mkhize the Minister of Health made announcement during the International Nurses Day celebrations in Durban on Tuesday, 12 May 2020. “As of today, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 11 350” the Minister said. This is a total of 698 new cases in 24 hours. The North West Province now has 51 cases.
