The Premier of the North West Province, Prof Tebogo Job Mokgoro on Friday, 28 June 2019, delivered the 6th Administration’s first State of the Province Address (SOPA) during the official Opening of the 6th North West Provincial Legislature (NWPL).Themed “Together celebrating democracy, renewal and growth for a better South Africa”, Mokgoro’s address relayed goals that the state aid to achieve by 2030, as set out on the recently delivered State of the National Address by President Cyril Ramaphosa recently.

In his first point of departure, the Premier pointed to the key growth priorities, that which stands as the pillars of the President’s plan going forward in this administration. These pillars include;

• Economic transformation and job creation

• Education, skills and health

• Consolidating the social wage through reliable and quality basic services

• Spatial integration, human settlements and local government

• Social cohesion and safe communities

• A capable, ethical and developmental state

• A better Africa and World

This points are said to come at a time where government is aiming to revive it’s National Development Plan (NDP) as a guiding structure that will help with the realization of the mentioned goals . “We are alive to the fact that the NDP has not lived up to expectation in the past and have been overtaken by events in some instances, but that does not mean we are unable to make amends; we are still on track to realising its goals.” Premier Mokgoro Said.

“The better life we promised our people in 1994 and subsequent years cannot be postponed; that is why we made the clarion call to Grow South Africa to all our people and they responded by extending our mandate by another five years.” He further said .

The Premier expressed great concern in the recent municipal report by the Auditor General, that was released recently, where none of the 22 municipalities in the North West Province obtained clean audit.

According to Premier Mokgoro, this is a serious indictment on the provincial government in relation to the implementation of the Section 139 intervention in the last twelve months at these municipalities.

“Let me assure you, there are going to be repercussions” expressed the Premier.

On a lighter note … The Premier expressed the North West Province’s interest in taking part in the 4th industrial revolution, and also recognized national leadership that is from this province and is spearheading this interventions. Joseph Ndaba, from Presidential Fourth Industrial Revolution Advisory Commission, was recognized by the Premier.

“We will be hosting a National Summit on the Fourth Industrial Revolution in partnership with the Minister of Communication.” The Premier announced.
