#SAMA25 Memorable Winners

The 25th anniversary of the South African Music Awards, held at Sun City’s Super Bowl, is not the kind to spring away from mind. The Vryburg Independent Post Blog looks back on some of the memorable winners of this annual event. Including the hotly contested Song Of The Year Award, scooped this year by Holly Rey, for her popular tune , Deeper, which undoubtedly by now is a house sing along.

Lady Zamar’s project , Collide , was nominated 3 times. Zamar took home 2 SAMAs, one for Highest Airplay Composer and the other for Highest Airplay.

The 2019 SAMAs Lifetime Achievement Awardees were a true reflection of the turn of the century that was. Mango Groove were honored. According to the band’s founder , John Leyden, who we spotted in attendance, there was a little mix up when he had to go and accept the award as it was accepted by its presenters. HHP’s award was accepted by his son Leano … while TKZEE stepped up to the podium and showed some love.

Limpopo Champions League’s Sho Madjozi was nominated four times and managed to win at least two thereof.

Including Best Newcomer as well as , that which evidently came as a shock to her, Best Female Artist.

Like Madjozi, Sjava also scooped two awards of the four nominations he received. Best African Pop Album and Album of the Year.

The latter which Sjava was noble enough, after great honor and acknowledgement from Vusi Nova as he was walk on to the stage, to reassure him that he will get it (The award) next time.
