“If You Ate Today, Thank a Farmer”: Huhudi High’s Ms Mokgosi Honoured at Subdistrict NTA

In the heart of GANYESA, where the spirit of hard work meets the fertile ground of opportunity, one teacher’s dedication to agricultural education has not gone unnoticed. Ms Kegomoditswe Mokgosi, a seasoned educator at Huhudi Agricultural Sciences High School, was recently awarded second place in the “Excellence in Secondary School Teaching” category at the National Teaching Awards (NTA) — Kagisano Molopo Subdistrict Level.

The awards ceremony, held on 30 July 2025 under the Office of the District Director for Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District, recognised outstanding educators who continue to shape the future of South Africa through innovation, excellence, and commitment in the classroom.

A Journey Rooted in Agriculture

At 34, Ms Mokgosi’s story is one of transformation — from farm management to academic excellence. Originally from Madibogo – Lehatlheng section, she began her professional career in 2012 at Jasonja Boerdery Dairy Farm, just 10 km outside Delareyville. Under the mentorship of Sonja and Johan van Niekerk, she spent four years learning the ins and outs of agricultural management.

“They taught me practically everything about managing a farm,” Mokgosi reflects with gratitude.

This hands-on experience would become the foundation for a teaching career that now inspires hundreds of learners.

From Setlagole to Ganyesa: Sowing Seeds of Excellence

Ms Mokgosi’s teaching journey began in 2016 at Kgosi-Shope Secondary School in Setlagole, where she taught Agricultural Sciences to Grade 12 learners. Her first matric class achieved an impressive 84.72% pass rate — an early indication of the educator’s talent and drive.

In 2019, she joined Huhudi High School, located 70 km from Vryburg. At the time, the school was undergoing a pivotal transformation into an agricultural-focused institution.

“Hand in hand with Mrs. Marx, we started the transition that made Huhudi High what it is today — a true agricultural school,” she says. Today, Ms. Mokgosi manages the school’s farm while teaching Agricultural Management Practices to Grades 10, 11, and 12.

Unmatched Results and Unshaken Resolve

Ms Mokgosi’s classroom is a space of discipline, high standards, and consistent achievement. Under her leadership, Grade 12 results in Agricultural Management Practices have consistently remained exceptional:

• 2019: 100% pass – highest average nationally

• 2021: 100% pass – with minimal learners below Level 3

• 2022: 100% pass – continued quality performance

• 2023: 100% pass – consistent excellence

• 2024: 99% pass – still maintaining high quality

These results are not coincidental. “Being a teacher is not just about going to class — I do what I love. I’m a practical person, I talk less and do more,” says Mokgosi. “Many know me as a hard worker. I push myself to achieve more every day. I walk tall.”

Her philosophy is best captured by her personal motto:

“If you ate today, thank a farmer.”

A Role Model for the Rural Child

For learners from farming communities and rural areas, Ms Mokgosi is more than a teacher — she is a role model who proves that agricultural education can open doors to national recognition.

Her story is also a call to value the often-overlooked contributions of agricultural educators in shaping both food security and the future of rural economies.

As she continues to nurture the next generation of agricultural experts in Huhudi and beyond, Ms Mokgosi stands as a beacon of excellence, humility, and purpose.

Congratulations to Ms Kegomoditswe Mokgosi on her well-deserved recognition — a true champion of the classroom, the land, and the learners.
