The first positive coronavirus case in South Africa was announced a little over 10 weeks ago, and as of Monday, 11 May 2020, the numbers have risen to 10 652. Over the weeks gone by, the North West Province’s COVID-19 cases have been steadily rising. The province has over this period maintained a less than 1% contribution to the national numbers. Be that as it may, the recent rise in numbers in a short space of time prove that the North West Province is not out of the woods just yet.
An increase of 13 new cases in the past 7 days has seen the North West Province now having 50 confirmed coronavirus cases. The Minister of Health Dr. Zweli Mkhize today also reported 12 new deaths in South Africa, and for the first time the North West Province was amongst these numbers with 1 fatality to the novel virus. The North West Provincial Department of Health has confirmed this death recently on their social media platforms. The total number of fatalities in the country is now 206. “We express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and appreciate the health workers who treated these patients.” Conveyed the Minister.
