Tragedy struck Mariri Street on the morning of Sunday, 06 July 2025, when a fire broke out in a residential home, claiming the life of an elderly woman.

Alarmed neighbors quickly called emergency services, who arrived swiftly at the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze.

Sadly, the body of an elderly woman was recovered from the wreckage and declared dead on the scene by forensic teams. The exact cause of the fire is still unknown.

The scene has since been cordoned off, with members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) currently combing through evidence. SAPS confirmed to The VIP Team that an official statement will be released soon.

The community has been left reeling, with neighbors and family members expressing deep shock and sadness at the sudden loss.
