Condolences to the Matlhaku Family Continue to Pour in Amid Tragic Losses

The Taung community has once again been plunged into mourning following the tragic passing of Onkgomotse Petunia Matlhaku, who died in an accident on the 19th of July 2025 — the very same day her family was burying four loved ones lost in a separate accident.

Community member Ontiretse Thomas expressed the grief shared by many:

“Today I am sending my most deepest, sincere condolences to the Matlhaku Family. They said bosigo jwa loso botla feta, eseng go ipoeletsa — how will this family ever heal from this? After burying four family members at once due to an accident, on the day of the burial they lose another member due to an accident again. 🥺

Wa bo ale kae modimo? Botlhoko bo aparetse family jaana? Ga a bone? Or ke thato ya gagwe?

Badumedi, how do you explain this one?

How do you tell the family ‘gotla siama’?

I don’t know how they will ever heal from this.

May your soul rest in peace Onkgomotse, you were such a jolly person.

Borra Matlhaku, gomotsegang.”

Sister Onkgomotse Petunia Matlhaku

According to a death notice issued by the North West Regional Youth Ministry, Sister Onkgomotse Petunia Matlhaku was the Youth Deputy Secretary of Nkhabang 2 Branch, Tuelo Ikaneng Memorial Local Church. The church described her passing as a deep loss and called on the faith community to continue praying for the Matlhaku family, asking for “strength, comfort, and peace during this time of grief.”

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.

In the face of such devastating pain, the community stands in solidarity with the Matlhaku family. May the memory of Onkgomotse and the other departed family members bring some comfort during this unimaginable time.

May their souls rest in peace and rise in glory.
