VRYBURG, NORTH WEST – The North West MEC for Education, Viola  Motsumi, visited the families of learners involved in the recent fatal car accident on Wednesday evening, 8 April 2026.

The visit took place at Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital, where two injured learners from Vryburg High School are currently receiving treatment.

The learners were among a group travelling from Delareyville to school when the accident occurred, claiming the lives of two learners and the driver, while leaving two others seriously injured.

During the visit, MEC Motsumi met with the affected families and received an update on the condition of the injured learners. The visit forms part of the department’s ongoing support to the families and the school community during this difficult time.

The North West Department of Education has reiterated its commitment to providing psychosocial support to learners, educators and families affected by the tragedy.

The incident has deeply affected the Vryburg community, with messages of condolences and support continuing to pour in as the province mourns the loss of young lives.
