VRYBURG, NORTH WEST – The community is mourning the loss of two learners from Vryburg High School following a tragic car accident that occurred on Wednesday, 08 April 2026, morning.


According to a statement issued by the school, four learners were travelling to school from Delareyville using private transport when the accident took place. Tragically, two learners and the driver lost their lives, while the other two learners sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital.
Five additional learners who were travelling in a vehicle behind them were unharmed.

In a heartfelt message, the school expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones affected. “Our hearts are broken. As a school, we stand together in grief and will offer all the support we can during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read.
Tributes have since begun pouring in from across the community. Kismet Secondary School shared a message honouring the lives of the two learners, identifying them as Remofiloe Mtshengu and Kitso Mathope, and describing them as deeply loved and remembered.
The school has called on the community to keep the affected families and injured learners in their thoughts and prayers, while also requesting privacy during this difficult period.
