Baboon spotted roaming Bloemhof as municipality urges residents to stay alert

BLOEMHOF — Lekwa-Teemane Local Municipality has issued a public alert after a baboon was reportedly spotted roaming within the Bloemhof town area.

In a notice dated 8 January 2026, the municipality warned that the animal may pose a potential danger to residents, adding that there are currently no immediate means available to safely contain or engage the baboon.

The municipality said relevant authorities are making efforts to address the situation and urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid approaching the animal, and keep children and pets indoors where possible until further notice.

Further updates will be communicated as the situation develops, the notice said.
