VRYBURG — 11 Dec 2025.
North West police arrested four men and confiscated two pistols with ammunition after stopping a white Ford Ranger allegedly headed to commit a murder in Ganyesa.
According to the Office of the Provincial Commissioner, Crime Intelligence flagged the bakkie on Monday night, 8 December. Tactical Response Team (TRT), Public Order Policing (POP) and Visible Policing (VISPOL) units tracked it to a garage, then intercepted it on Market Street. A search of the vehicle uncovered two handguns and several rounds hidden in a bag. The occupants could not produce proof of lawful ownership.

The suspects—Tumelo Gompe (44), Tshepiso Mangate (43), Rasake Matsapa (33) and Sefatsa Ramokoni (28)—appeared in the Vryburg District Court on Wednesday, 10 December, on charges of possession of illegal firearms and ammunition and conspiracy to commit murder. They were remanded in custody and are due back in court on Monday, 15 December 2025.
Acting Provincial Commissioner Maj Gen (Dr) Ryno Naidoo praised the “vigilance” of the teams, saying the removal of illegal firearms “will indeed prevent future crimes.”
