In the true spirit of International Nelson Mandela Day, more than 100 spirited community members gathered at the Matlhako 2 Community Hall in Pudimoe to celebrate this year’s powerful theme: “It’s in our hands to combat poverty and inequity.”

Led by Pudimoe Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Theresa Magile, the event marked the first phase of a heartfelt initiative aimed at uplifting a struggling family in the community. Through the collective efforts of local businesses, government departments, and generous donors, a house is being built for a single mother raising six children, aged between 2 and 18.

The day’s programme included motivational messages, pledges of support, and an emotional outpouring of community solidarity. Dr RSM District Commissioner Brigadier Tlotleng, the Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson, and officials from various sister departments were present to show their support for the initiative.

The second phase of the celebration will culminate in the official handover of the new home to the family, a moment eagerly anticipated by all involved.

This year’s Mandela Day project in Pudimoe reflects the enduring legacy of Madiba — one of compassion, dignity, and active citizenship.
