
In a celebration of excellence and dedication, Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital nurses showcased their outstanding skills and commitment at the 2024 North West Department of Health Nursing Excellence Awards. Held at Sun City Resort on 23 May 2024, the event honored healthcare professionals who go above and beyond in their service to the community.

Sr Constance Kanatu, a Professional Nurse specializing in Ophthalmology, received the prestigious Cecilia Makiwane Award for Nursing Practice, recognizing her as the best Professional Nurse in the province. This award is a testament to Sr Kanatu’s exemplary clinical skills, accountability, professionalism, and advocacy for quality healthcare, accumulated over her 17 years of dedicated service.
Another shining star from Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital, Sr Elizabeth Reygaardt, a Professional Nurse in Oncology, was honored with the MEC’s Special Nursing Excellence Award. This award, presented by the Health MEC, Honourable Madoda Sambatha, acknowledges Sr Reygaardt’s exceptional leadership and significant contributions to the nursing profession over her impressive 32-year career.

Ms Portia Tlou, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, expressed her heartfelt congratulations to the award recipients and gratitude to all nurses who participated in the awards. She praised their unwavering efforts and emphasized the hospital’s commitment to continually improve healthcare services despite challenges. Ms Tlou also recognized the invaluable impact nurses have on patients’ lives and the healthcare system, underscoring their unique and essential role.
