MAXIMUM JAIL TERM SECURED AGAINST SERIAL RAPIST

Klerksdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) secured a lengthy jail term against Ayanda Samuel Mbiphi (30) who was sentenced by the Klerksdorp Regional Court on Thursday, 25 April 2019 to life and additional 55 years imprisonment.

According to Police Spokesperson, Captain Sam Tselanyane, “Mbiphi’s conviction emanated from an intensive investigation that led to his arrest and subsequent linkage through DNA to four cases of rape that were committed in Khuma near Stilfontein between February and May 2014.”

RAPE INCIDENTS:

In the first rape incident in February 2014, the court was told that the accused met the victim on the street and threatened her with a knife. He then forced the victim to a certain yard where he raped her.

In another rape incident in March 2014, Mbiphi grabbed a woman who was walking alone and threatened her with a knife. He robbed her of her cell phone before raping her.

The court also heard that the accused raped two other women in two separate incidents in March and May 2014. In one of these incidents, Mbiphi raped a 15-year-old minor. That was after he broke and gained entrance into a house and found the minor and two other women asleep.  The accused was still ransacking the house when the minor woke up. He  threatened her with a knife, forcefully took her out of the house and eventually raped her at an open field.

The accused raped the fourth woman in March 2014. The woman was waiting for someone at a street corner when Mbiphi approached her. He threatened the woman with a knife, assaulted and robbed her of her cell phone. The accused forcefully took the woman to a vandalised house where he raped her.

Consequent to a thorough investigation, the accused was ultimately linked with the cases through DNA and physical evidence after being arrested in 2016 for another rape case.
