Dr. Ben Bole, Head of Department (HoD) for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), has wrapped up a series of one-on-one engagement sessions aimed at supporting municipalities within the Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati (RSM) District. These sessions, which spanned over four weeks, sought to empower municipalities to fulfill their functions more effectively.

Together with key stakeholders, Dr. Bole convened a meeting to present a consolidated high-level report on the outcomes of the engagement sessions. The report identifies common challenges faced by municipalities across different pillars and outlines support interventions to address these issues.

Reflecting on the six pillars crucial to municipal effectiveness – including putting people first, delivering basic services, and ensuring good governance – the sessions focused on developing improvement plans tailored to each municipality’s specific needs.

The second session of engagements commenced with the Naledi Local Municipality, where municipal officials provided an overview of the current state of affairs and crafted plans for improvement under the theme of “Strengthening Municipal Support Programme to Improve Effectiveness.”

Subsequent sessions were held with municipalities such as LekwaTeemane, Kagisano Molopo, and Greater Taung. Each session aimed to foster dialogue and collaboration between the Department of CoGTA and local government entities, with a shared goal of enhancing municipal performance and service delivery.

The overarching theme of the engagement sessions, “Strengthening Municipal Support Programme To Improve Its Effectiveness,” underscores the commitment of both the Department of CoGTA and local municipalities to address challenges and drive positive change.

As Dr. Bole reiterated, these sessions serve as a crucial platform for municipalities to assess their strengths and weaknesses, identify areas for improvement, and receive the necessary support to overcome challenges.

The ongoing commitment of CoGTA to facilitate these one-on-one engagement sessions demonstrates the government’s dedication to fostering capable, accountable, and responsive local government institutions in the North West Province.

As the sessions conclude, municipalities within the Dr. RSM District are poised to embark on a path of enhanced effectiveness and improved service delivery, aligning with the overarching goal of building resilient and prosperous communities across the province.

Stay tuned for further updates on the progress of municipal support initiatives and the ongoing efforts to grow North West together.
