Vryburg, 22 June 2023 – In a series of targeted operations, law enforcement agencies in Vryburg have made significant strides in combating drug and liquor-related crimes. The successful operations, led by the Provincial Organised Crime, Vryburg Visible Policing, and K9 Unit, have resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of various illicit substances.

Police spokesperson, Captain Aafje Botma, provided details of the recent arrests, highlighting the coordinated efforts of the law enforcement team. In one operation, a man was apprehended at a hair salon located at the taxi rank. Acting on crime intelligence, officers discovered 65 mandrax tablets during a thorough search of the premises. Subsequently, the suspect’s residence in Vry Street was raided, leading to the discovery of over 100 grams of crystal meth. The suspect then cooperated with authorities and guided them to another location, where 38 packets of illegal liquor, commonly known as “stomp,” and 29 sachets of crystal meth were uncovered.

In a separate operation on the same day, law enforcement officers conducted a search at a food outlet at the taxi rank, resulting in the arrest of two suspects. The search revealed the presence of illegal liquor, prompting one of the suspects to lead the police to a residence on McKenzie Street. There, law enforcement officers discovered 9 containers of 25 litres and 24 containers of 200 millilitres of illegal liquor known as “Alomo.”

Both arrested suspects appeared in the Vryburg Magistrates’ Court to face charges related to drug and liquor offenses. The arrests signify a proactive approach by the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, who reiterated the commitment to allocate resources and intensify operations in crime hotspots. These measures aim to create a hostile environment for criminals, effectively reducing their ability to operate within the community.
