
A record 15 new coronavirus cases were recorded by the North West Province in the past 24 hours. This bring the total number of cases in the province to 109.

These increase in the Provincial numbers is inclusive of 10 Harmony Gold Mine workers who recently tested positive for COVID19. Miner were screened and tested as they returned to work for a 50% capacity return to work as regulated but the Department of Corporative Governance and Traditional Affairs under level 4. With level 3 looming, 100% capacity return to work will set in motion. Based to the recent coronavirus results coming out of the mine, this is somewhat alarming. The MEC of Health in the North West Province, Madoda Sambatha is calling on all miners to be tested before returning to work. The MEC is also advocating for necessity of honesty during screen. This is as the MEC claims that some patients being screened intentionally tell lies during screenings to avoid being tested.

South Africa on Monday, 25 May 2020, recorded a total of 1032 new cases in the 24 hours that was. This bring the total number of coronavirus positive cases in the country to 23 615. Encouragingly the recorded number of recovery are also steadily increasing. Compared to statistics released by the Department of Health on Friday, 15 May 2020, when the country recorded just over 6000 recoveries, there are now as of yesterday, almost 12 000 patients were confirmed as recovered.

According to the Department of Health in the North West Province, the novel virus seems to be infecting a large number of men compared to women. The Department reported that 56% of the 109 confirmed were male. 15 people are reported to be hospitalized.
