A.J Wookey Youth Fellowship, on Tuesday, 21 March 2023, hosted kids at, what they coined as, a Kids Fun Festival, at Vryburg’s Hayes Park. This Religiously rooted Fellowship is based in Vryburg, under the greater United Congregational Churches of Southern Africa (UCCSA). UCCSA’s Youth Ministry exists in 5 Countries in Southern Africa, spread in 29 Regions.

The local Youth Ministry, in A.J. Wookey Youth Fellowship, at a synod level subscribes to living positively and actively participating in spreading the word of God in Church and society and also proclaim that “In Christ there is a Future”. Living true to this Mission Statement, this collective of young community leaders opened the gates to Haye Park for toddlers, teenagers and their parents, on what was a National Holiday (Human Rights Day), for a day of Fun, Fun, Fun. Jumping Castles, Water Parks, Swings, And Indigenous Games were the Order of the day.

This cohort of children loving Young people made this a day that most of the parents in attendance felt at ease, as the day whined down, as they consistently continued to watch over their children while they played and socialised. According to A.J. Wookey Youth Fellowship’s Chairperson, Ms. Marang Montwedi, the initiative was a well thought out concept by the Brothers and Sisters at the Local youth fellowship. “This not only for the purposes of Fundraising for the Fellowship, but also for the benefit of leisure for all in attendance, indigenous education, the spread of the gospel and to give entrepreneurial opportunities to local businesses in the vicinity that we reside in.” Explained Ms. Montwedi.

The Fellowship Chairperson recognised the abundance of support they continue to receive from local Mother-body in UCCSA’s A.J Wookey Local Church and its various societies, under the leadership of Rev. G.V. Keagile. The fellowship is also known to have a good fellowship relationship with other youth formations in the area. The event was also widely shared on various social media platforms, with many on these avenues reviewing the event to having been a brilliant idea and encouraged this collective of young people to continue with these unique concepts.

Rev. Keagile and was in attendance on the day. Spending the day with his family and interacting with the young and the old. “This event was planned to be inclusive and we congratulate these young leaders for coming up with such a platform within the church.” Remarked Rev. Keagile, in his programmed closing remarks.

The Vryburg Independent Post Team (The VIP Team) was witness to parents, during the kids’ various game intervals, joining the fun by also participating in some of the games. The parents hailed the Kids Fun Festival by the AJ Wookey Youth Fellowship as a great initiative that was well supported and called for a second leg. The VIP Team has it on good authority that the Fellowship plans to host a similar event in spring later this year.

The UCCSA Youth Ministry’s Vision is “To be a youth fellowship with love and To be a youth fellowship with love and passion that will stand firm in the passion that will stand firm in the teaching of Jesus Christ even in such a teaching of Jesus Christ even in such a time as this.” Next on the Fellowship’s calendar is a Provincial UCCSA Youth Ministry Annual Camp, which will this year be hosted by UCCSA’s Gamolopo Local Church, in Disaneng near Mahikeng, at the end of March. According to Mr. Parde Keameditse, who is a former Provincial Youth Ministry Executive Member, and veteran in the ministry, “The Camp is a platform where local churches around the North West Province organise to meet for the purposes of comradeship. Here they have the opportunity to compete amongst themselves in various musical and sports activities.” Mr. Keameditse is currently serving as Mentor to the AJ Wookey Youth Fellowship. He also referred to the organised Camp as an important platform where young God fearing congregants can come together to praise and worship. This is as he continued to allude to various religious activities that are usually scheduled for such camps, including morning and evening devotion services.
