Sacred Heart Primary School’s Marimba Band graced Shoppers at Taung Mall with nostalgic upbeat rhythms on Saturday, 28 May 2022. The Vryburg Independent Post Team (The VIP Team) in the audience was witness to compliments, enquiries and cheers from passing shoppers.

The young band is coordinated by Mr Appiah who was more than happy to indulge The VIP Team. According to Mr. Appiah, “the kids have been practicing together for a while now and they are having a good time. They have grown to be disciplined in the graft. The coordinator indicated that they are at the Mall to raise awareness to borne their existence to the Taung Public.

Mr. Appiah and his team have also, from Saturday, 04 June 2022, opened up their Marimba Skills to the public. The Sacred Heart Primary Marimba Team now offer Formal Marimba Lessons to anyone interested to know how to play the musical instruments. The lessons are said to be carried out over a 3 months duration over 12 Saturdays.

According to Wikipedia, The marimba is a musical instrument in the percussion family that consists of wooden bars that are struck by mallets. Below each bar is a resonator pipe that amplifies particular harmonics of its sound. Compared to the xylophone, the timbre of the marimba is warmer and more pure.
