DELAREYVILLE – 2 September 2026: Two siblings have been arrested, on Friday, 28 August 2026, in Delareyville following an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the recovery of a live Southern African Python allegedly advertised for sale online.

The operation was conducted by the Sannieshof Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit (STESU) in collaboration with the North West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) and the Wildlife Crime Information Network (WCIN).

Police received information about a live Southern African Python allegedly being advertised for sale on a private social media platform for R5,000. Investigators traced the alleged seller to Delareyville.

Two suspects were subsequently located in the town, with one allegedly carrying a blue bag. A search of the bag led to the discovery of the live python.

The suspects have been identified as 37-year-old Tshepo Mojakgolo and his 22-year-old sibling, Lebogang Mojakgolo.

They were arrested for allegedly possessing a protected wild animal without the required permits and conducting a restricted activity without the necessary authorisation, in contravention of Section 57(1) of the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act, 2004 (Act 10 of 2004).

The siblings appeared briefly before the Delareyville Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 31 August 2026, and were released on warning. The matter remains before court.

North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Arthur Adams said SAPS would continue working with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to combat wildlife crime.

The public is encouraged to report suspected illegal possession, transportation or sale of protected wildlife to police.
